Bringing Hope Through Community Support
When Hornby residents shared what they would like to see more of in the community through the Greater Hornby Area Community Survey, we heard the need for a Community Support worker that will provide timely help when local residents are struggling or in need of support.
Through community support work, we can assist with a range of social supports including help with housing, employment, access to physical and mental health services, and much more at no cost.
Our work here is led by the needs of those we’re supporting. Its strength is that we are able to support people with whatever need they present us when they knock on our doors at Te Whare Awhero (Hope House), or when they are referred to us through church groups and other community agencies.
To be a ‘link in the chain’ is community support. This means being a caring, supportive person in people’s lives. This also means offering resources and opportunities to shine a light on the road ahead for individuals and families seeking help. By reaching out through community support, we have the ability to let them know that they are not alone in their struggles and help bring hope to their lives.
