At Horizons OSCAR, we believe all children deserve to play and have fun with their peers to build positive memories as they grow up. Through our Creating Opportunities Fund, we have been able to support families so their children can participate in our programme.

By reaching out through community support, we have the ability to let people know that they are not alone in their struggles and can help bring hope to their lives.

When we go through challenging times, understanding and compassion from a listening ear is often what we seek in order to heal. So for over 30 years, we have been providing affordable Counselling services to our local community in Hornby and the southwest of Christchurch.

Established in 2002, Horizons OSCAR grew from the need for before school, after school and school holiday childcare programmes in our local community in Hornby and in the southwest of Christchurch.

Growing hope can happen in many ways. For Te Whare Awhero, one of these ways was starting with something as small as a veggie seed, out of which Seed Sunday grew.

In 2008, there was not a single basketball team in Hornby High School. Eleven years later and the Hornby High Senior basketball teams qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals, the first time ever in the school’s history. This is a local story of belief and hard work, battling against the odds and finding a way to be a true Champion.

For over 30 years, we have been committed to working with young people and their families in the southwest of Christchurch. Our commitment to this mission has seen us launch “Project Gilberthorpe,” a series of initiatives in partnership with Gilberthorpe Primary School.

We live in challenging times brought by Covid-19 and those already struggling will face the worst of it. With our mission at Te Whare Awhero - Hope House to bring hope to our community, we continue to provide support in the following ways.
